BIZARRE BUT TRUE.
If I did not know better, I would think this video is a comedic skit from Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately, it is very real and depicts a question raised to Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, at a confirmation hearing.
This only gets worse because the person who asked the question is a U.S. Senator, Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). I get the effort to try to be lighthearted in an all-too dry and stuffy setting, and I also get the urge to talk about Edward and Jacob at every given opportunity–but come on! There is a place and time for everything and a Supreme Court justice nomination hearing may not be the place to talk about our teeny-bopper crushes. If I am correct, there have only been 38 women who have ever been elected to the Senate and only 17 of the 100 current members are women–so, women may be a bit more subject to scrutiny whether we like it or not. Way to put women back a couple of hundred years ma’am. Am I over-reacting? Tell me what you think!
The whole incident was a bit awkward.
