Steven Tyler said he loves watching Phillip sing. Jennifer Lopez said she doesn’t understand why people compare Phillip to Dave Matthews saying, “People say you remind them of Dave Matthews. That didn’t remind me of Dave Matthews at all. That was something totally different.” Randy Jackson though was not as thrilled as his co-judges. “I liked it, but did I love it and was I jumping up and down? No. It was good, but I don’t know if it was ‘Oh my God,’ but it was good.”

Steven said of the performance: “Very entertaining. Very off the wall. Typical Phillip Phillips… I like that you take chances like that. I think you found your niche. That’s great man.” Jennifer was a bit worried however after Phillip finished. “It was a pretty song. It was just a bit too artsy and at this point in the competition, I just feel like song is so important because each one of you has a shot to win. Especially you Phillip, so I get a little bit scared when you do stuff like that. There will be a time and place that you can do that whenever you want. This is not that place right now. I need you to do a songs that get you on that lastshow so you can win. OK?”
Randy disagreed with JLo. “I was worried because this is a Dave Matthews song because people are always comparing you to Dave Matthews. But what you just did instead is you showed your true colors once again. Your Phil Phillips. You’re an artist. You love being an artist…You’re a true artist…I loved that you showed this artist side. Die sink or swim, Phillip Phillips will always be Phillip Phillips. He stands behind who he is, what he is and where he’s going. I love that…I am a musician first and that speaks to me.”
Note: Julianne Hough, Ryan Seacrest’s girlfriend, was backstage and called Phillip “YUMMY!” Can’t say I blame her. Phillip told Ryan not to worry as he is not trying to steal his girlfriend.
