Did we really need a special press conference to announce what we all have known for weeks?

American Idol made this earth shattering, shocking expected announcement today: Golden Globe-nominated actress, platinum-selling recording artist, movie producer and entrepreneur Jennifer Lopez and multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Steven Tyler, the frontman of Aerosmith – the best-selling American rock band of all time – have joined Idol as judges. Lopez and Tyler will join returning Idol judge Randy Jackson for the 10th anniversary season, which premieres January 2011 on FOX.

The only news that Idol announced today which had not yet been leaked is that Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, co-founder of Beats Audio and one of the world’s most successful and prolific music producers, will join Idol an in-house mentor.

OK. Got it. Who loves/hates/doesn’t care about this new lineup?

Justin Guarini To Make Broadway Debut In Women On The Verge of A Nervous Breakdown

Justin Guarini may so far be best known for not having won the first season of American Idol, or for starring in the Box Office flop, From Justin to Kelly (which sadly ranks as #22 on IMDB.com’s all-time 100-worst-rated movies). But Guarini is hoping  all that is about to change very soon.

Guarini may have lost to Kelly Clarkson on Idol but he just won a key role in the Broadway musical, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, set to open in New York this November.

Guarini will play the role of Carlos and will join a slew of other Idol alums who have appeared on Broadway, including, Constantine Maroulis, Fantasia Barrino, Clay Aiken, and Diana DeGarmo.

Kara DioGuardi Was Blindsided By American Idol [Video]

Hollywood is a tough town. Just ask Kara DioGuardi. Or her dad. Per her father, DiGuardi was not only fired by American Idol, she found out about her ousting through the media, like the rest of us! That is just cruel.

Kara’s father, Joe DioGuardi, is running for a Republican senate seat and told NY-based TV show Capitol Tonight that Kara had no idea what was coming to her. “Would you believe she did not hear, and still has not heard, anything?” Joe said. “She read it the way you did and I did. Her disappointment is that that’s the way she’s being treated and she feels that’s not proper. I think they’re trying to create a lot of buzz like they did with Paula Abdul.”

Joe also says he thinks his daughter will be fine because she is deeply rooted in the music industry. “She’ll be fine,” he said. “Would she want to do it another year? I think so … I think at some point [she] will confront them on that.”

As far as who will judge American Idol Season 10, it seems like our guess is as good as the powers to be at Fox since the potential candidates seem to change on an hourly basis.

Here is the interview with Kara’s father. He talks about her starting at the 4:11 mark.

Jennifer Lopez Mocks At Rumors That She Is Ousted As American Idol Judge

Jennifer Lopez may or may not be a diva, but she certainly has a great sense of humor.

A day after People and lots of other media sources prematurely reported that Lopez had been dumped by Fox as a possible judge on Season 10 of American Idol, this alleged diva sent the above photo via her Twitter account to make fun of all of the gossip about her.

According to People, JLo was taken out of the running as a replacement for Ellen DeGeneres because: “Her demands got out of hand and Fox had just had enough.”

Along with the caption, “Hmmm… what should I wear today?” Lopez tweeted the above-photo of diamonds and other gold jewelry.

When asked if JLo has been taken out of the running for a possible seat on the Idol judging bench, Ryan Seacrest responded: “What have you heard? I’ve heard nothing.”

Fantasia Barrino Recovering After An Apparent Suicide Attempt

All that is happening with Fantasia Barrino is heartbreaking. How does one go from such riches to rags in such a quick time? Six years ago, this single mother was on top of the world. She won American Idol‘s third season crown, had a highly successful CD and was living the dream. This week, Fantasia was rushed to a North Carolina hospital and currently being treated for an aspirin and sleeping pill overdose. An apparent suicide attempt.

Six years ago, Fantasia’s first single, I Believe, debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first artist to achieve this feat with a first single. Her debut album, Free Yourself was released in November 2004 and in its first week alone sold over 240,000 copies and later became platinum. The album also earned Fantasia four Grammy nominations

Also in 2004, Fantasia played herself in a
Lifetime Television original film based on her autobiography, Life Is Not a Fairy Tale. The film was a hit as 19 million viewers tuned in its debut weekend alone.

Her second album,
Fantasia, was released in 2005 and was eventually certified gold. In a surprising move, Fantasia stopped recording music and accepted the role of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple. But despite rave reviews, her career started to take a bit of a tumble. First, she hurt her vocal cords and missed several shows without telling people what the problem was. She was also dropped from her record label, 19 Entertainment based on creative differences.  To make matters worse, her home also fell into foreclosure in the middle of all of this although she was able to save it later.

Building on all of this trouble, last week, the media revealed that Fantasia had been named in a divorce law suit by a wife, claiming her marriage fell apart because Fantasia was involved with her now-estranged husband and that the two had even made a sex tape. This is where I think Fantasia had just too much to handle. The media frenzy must have put this 26-year old over the edge, and sadly, it looks like this mother tried to take her own life.
