Right after Scotty McCreery was crowned the American Idol winner, he sang his first single in front of a live audience at Nokia.
While the cameras rolled, he walked up to and hugged his fellow finalist, Lauren Alaina. And the whole world heard it: “I love you baby!” Yes, those were the words uttered by the 17-year old Idol to Lauren.
As the confetti kept falling, we think we also saw Lauren plan a kiss on Scotty.
After it was all over, Entertainment Tonightasked Lauren if the two of them were involved in a romance. She answered, “he might be my boyfriend … ask him.”
So, ET did ask and Scotty said he is “still single,” although he did admit that they have “gotten really close, but I don’t know about the more than friends stuff.”
I for one can tell you that I spotted the lovely duo having dinner together with their families at Cheesecake Factory right after the elimination results show narrowing the field down to three contestants. I think this is uber cute and hope it’s true!
UPDATE 5/26: I met Lauren today and asked her on camera if she is dating Scotty…here is her answer on video:

The youngest American Idolmatch up took place Tuesday May 24 when 16-year old Lauren Alaina and 17-year old Scotty McCreerywent country head-to-country head for the Idol crown.
Lauren blew out her vocal chords during rehearsals today but after the coaches drugged her up, she said she was ready to sing. Scotty won the coin toss and like the gentleman that he is, he deferred to Lauren. Lauren chose to go second.
Favorite Song of the Season Round:
Lauren chose to re-sing Flat on the Floor. Her voice did not sound any worse for the wear. She strutted down the stairs confidently shaking her hips and was full of sass. Watch her performance video below:
Celebrity Pick Round:
Lauren’s personal idol, Carrie Underwood, picked Maybe It Was Memphis for Lauren to sing. Carrie picked a great song for Lauren to showcase her voice. Watch her performance video below:
Finalists’ Singles Round:
Should Lauren win, her first single will be Like My Mother Does. During the performance,Ryan Seacrest escorted Alaina to her mother in the audience. The performance received a huge standing ovation from the audience and I am sure it will pull at the heartstrings of every mother watching at home to vote for Lauren. Watch her performance video below:

Lauren Alaina was a bit starstruck by this week’s American Idol mentor, Beyoncé, but she took notes when the R&B icon suggested she get into a stage persona when she’s singing and not be afraid of the audience.
Lauren came out on her first song Wednesday (5/18) night with a flirty attitude and an even flirtier outfit (big flower earrings, a flowing red top and white cowboy boots). And even better, she was all smiles!
Here is what the judges said about her first song, Wild One by Faith Hill:
Jennifer Lopez: “Every time you come out, you have to create a moment. That was very good.”
Randy Jackson: “I love seeing you having fun. That was a nice song choice for you and I could tell you had a connection with it. When you let yourself go, that’s when you’re at your best.”
Steven Tyler: “Oh Lauren, you’re having fun. I loved the way you were singing tonight. You’re so ready for this, you’re ready for America to be all over you. I’m so happy for you.”
For her first song, Lauren sang Faith Hill’s Wild One:
Lauren’s second song, chosen for her by Jimmy Iovine, was If I Die Young by the Band Perry. J.Lo told her about a little miss that she had during the song, “You have the most beautiful tone of our finalists…it’s a magical thing. You got caught up in the honesty of what you were creating, and it was beautiful.” Jackson said, “You got such a beautiful tone and it was a great song choice.” Tyler said, “I loved it as well. It’s a beautiful song, you have a beautiful voice and you nailed it again.” Watch for yourself:
For her last song and as judges’ pick, Lauren sang Lee Ann Womack’s I Hope You Dance. She gave J.Lo the “goosies.” J.Lo said: “That was beautiful, I’m gonna dare to say you won that round for me already.” Jackson said, “You slayed it.” Tyler gushed,”You walked down here like you owned the Grand Ole Opry. You sang that song so perfectly. Lee Ann is a good friend of mine too and she’s so happy!” Watch it for yourself:
On last night’s American Idol (May 12) results show, we got another shocker! James Durbin, the tender-hearted rocker expected by most to make it the finale, was voted off of the show after 72 million votes were cast (record voting ever for a Top 4 show).
It came down to Durbin and Scotty McCreery as the last two contestants standing together to learn their fate. But when it was all over, it was Durbin who was voted off and eliminated.
Right after the results show, I ran into McCreery who could not have been more thankful for your votes. He was on his way to have dinner with his family and fellow Idol,Lauren Alaina.
Watch the nail biter results for yourself below. And then, watch my red carpet interview with Pia Toscano to hear her thoughts on the shocking ouster. She could not name “James Durbin” specifically when discussing the “results” because the show had not yet aired on the west coast.
On the May 11th episode of American Idol, Lauren Alaina was sweet and composed on her first performance of Anywayby Martina McBride, dedicated to the people from the “south recovering from the devastating tornadoes last week.”
The judges melted…
Steven Tyler: “Lauren you did it again. You broke my heart. That was the most beautiful thing. Your voice is so pure and perfect and right on pitch. You deliver a song like a blue plate special. You’re the whole package. I love you.” He also said he loves the buckle on her shoes and her dress. I love you Steven T for noticing and loving shoe buckles.
Jennifer Lopez: “That was very good, I am so proud of you baby. That’s exactly what you have to do. That was a great vocal performance. That was beautiful.”
Randy Jackson: “Last week, I was a little worried, but what you just did right there, the Lauren we all grew to love, that we met the first time that we met you, America, Lauren is back in it to win in. That was hot. You know what was wrong with that performance? Absolutely nothing. That was amazing!” Here is the video clip:
On her second song, Lauren channeled some Elvis by singing his Trouble…“I am evil, my middle name is misery.” Hard to imagine our sweet little Lauren singing those lyrics…
We were down to the Top 5 on American Idol at the beginning of the night on May 5.
