VIDEO: Jacob Lusk Wants Us To Look At The “Man In The Mirror”

We’re down to the final nine on American Idol and every one of our contestants was “in it to win it” Wednesday night –If I may borrow an oft-used Randy Jackson line.

I was on set for this very special Rock & Roll Hall of Fame episode and will write a full review later tonight about the experience watching Idol LIVE, I mean REALLY LIVE, in the quaint 700-person studio. So, check back to read the full story.

But for now, I will share the performance video below by Jacob Lusk who sang Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, being backed up on vocals by Siedah Garrett, the co-writer of MJ’s iconic song.

Lusk ditched Let’s Get It On at the last minute in favor of Man in the Mirror because he could not identify with the “do the nasty” message of Marvin Gaye’s hit. The decision was a success as Lusk really connected with MJ’s message. Every person in the studio had goosebumps when Lusk finished because we all knew we had all just witnessed something amazing together.

Video: Britney Spears Performs At Secret Las Vegas Shows

Britney Spears performed at two not-so-secret shows Friday night at the Palms Casino Resort’s Rain Nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The concerts were supposed to be a secret and were not announced until the day of the event when Brit took to Twitter:

“Looks like my little secret isnt a secret anymore. Whos coming to watch me take the stage TONIGHT at @RainLasVegas at @PalmsLasVegas?”

Brit first performed a private show at 8 p.m., followed by a midnight concert open to the general public with tickets selling for $60. The 45-minute set featured tracks from her upcoming Femme Fatale album and was shot by MTV for a special to coincide with the release of her album.
During the shows, Britney had several costume and set changes and Jersey Shore‘s Pauly D entertained and warmed up the quaint crowd of about 1,000 before the festivities started. Britney performed Hold It Against MeBig Fat Bass and Till The World Ends.

This was Brit’s first pulic performance since her Circus tour in 2009. Her boyfriend Jason Trawick was on the scene as was her dad, Jamie Spears.

Femme Fatale will be released next week. Watch her performance from Friday night below:

Take A Listen: Adam Lambert’s “Aftermath” Remix

Adam Lambert will be performing an acoustic version of the single Aftermath on American Idol tonight.

A remixed version of the song (which you can hear below) will be available on Adam’s official website later tonight with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Trevor Project, a crisis intervention and suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ youth.

Here is what Lambert says of Aftermath: “[“Aftermath”] was written about finding the courage to be honest with yourself and the people who love you. It’s about facing adversity and taking risks in the name of personal liberation. The song takes on different meanings to different listeners. I hope this song inspires people to be who they truly want to be… And dance!”

Gwyneth Paltrow Lands Record Deal

With all her recent musical performances, it was just a matter of time.

Gwyneth Paltrow has signed a $900,000 music deal with Atlantic Records. Paltrow, who got a few people talking about her singing performances in Country Strong and Glee and this year’s Grammy and Academy Awards, will release her first full length album.

Her album is expected to be in the country-pop realm, but Paltrow has also mentioned that she would love to record with Jay-Z.

Atlantic Records may actually be a good match for the actress-turned-singer since Atlantic boasts a diverse talent roster ranging from the Zac Brown Band and Brett Eldredge to Sean Paul, B.o.B, T.I. and Kid Rock.

No word on when her album will be released. Guess we all have to wait with bated breath.

Legendary Musician Phil Collins Retires Due To Poor Health

Phil Collins, the British singer, songwriter, pianist and drummer, best known as the drummer and vocalist for English progressive rock group Genesis, and later on as a solo artist, has decided to exit the music business due to health problems.

Collins says after years of hunching over his drum kit, he now suffers from hearing problems, a dislocated vertebra and nerve damage in his hands.

Collins, the father of two, tells FHM: “I’m not worried about not being able to play the drums again, I’m more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids.”

Collins, now 60 and living in a small town in Switzerland, has 13 hit singles to his credit, won seven Grammys and even took home an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999 for his work on Tarzan. But if the  legend wanted to make more music today, he would now have to compete with much younger musicians like Taylor SwiftJustin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

“I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: ‘I can’t be in the same business as this.’ I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely,” Collins tells FHM

Phil – I for one thank you for the many years of your music which I greatly enjoyed..To those of you who may not be familiar with Phil’s work, do yourself a favor and hit some of these classics on iTunes: No Reply At AllTonight, Tonight, Tonight, Land of ConfusionInvisible TouchIn The Air Tonight, You Can’t Hurry Love, Another Day In Paradise, and Against All Odds.

Hear Kim Kardashian’s New Music

Kim Kardashian just released her first music single. That’s right, she’s singing.

She debuted Jam (Turn It Up) Wednesday morning during her interview ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest.’
Side note: Didn’t her old BFF Paris Hilton have a dance single named Turn It Up  too? Wonder if she’s paying homage to her friend or trying to one up on her.

Kardashian worked with songwriter-producer The-Dream on this song.
“[The Dream said] let’s just have fun. Let’s donate the proceeds, let’s just have fun with it. Don’t take yourself seriously, try something you’ve never done before.”

Apparently, all proceeds from the sale of the single will go to charity. “[The-Dream and I] just had a good time, and the proceeds are going to a cancer organization [because we both] lost a parent to cancer. So it’s just fun,” she recently told MTV.
