Even before Nicki Minaj was announced as a judge for the upcoming season of ‘American Idol’, rumors started to fly that Mariah Carey is not a big fan of the hip-hop artist and in fact was dead-set against Minaj joining the cast.
Well, if that’s true, Mariah did not get her way and Minaj has already started sitting close to the singer on the judges’ panel. American Idol has finally announced the names for Season 12’s four-person judging panel.
Looks like Randy Jackson changed his mind and will be back this season. Joining him and Mariah Carey will be Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.
“Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox. “And Keith is another great addition to Idol – he’s one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him.” Continue reading
The Dawg is no more at “American Idol“. Per TMZ, Randy Jackson, the last-standing sitting original judge of the Fox show, is leaving his role from behind the panel and will from now on serve as mentor to the contestants.
Nicki Minaj, an American Idol judge? That’s what a source told Us Weekly. “I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.”

SPOTTED: Natasha Bedingfield and Annalynne McCord stopped by the Lumia Lounge at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE celebrating the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 in pink. The lounge was held in conjunction with the Nicki Minaj concert held at the same venue on August 8, 2012.
During the concert, Bedingfield Tweeted, “At the Lumia lounge #nokiapink watching my girl Nicki Minaj”.
The MTV Video Music Awards 2012 list of nominees has been revealed. Rihanna and Drake both received the most nods, leading the star-studded pack with five nominations each. Katy Perry came in second with four nominations.
