Forbes Releases List of Top 10 Highest Paid Actresses 2009 – 2010

Forbes just released its annual list of the top 10 highest-paid actresses who defied the odds in a tough-Hollywood town and made the big bucks last year.

It’s no secret that it is much harder for actresses than actors to land great leading roles in Hollywood, especially for women over 40. It is even tougher for the women to be paid on equal footing to their male actor counterparts.

But don’t tell Sandra Bullock any of that because she will tell you her story is a little bit different.

Last year, Bullock rocked Hollywood, first with her romantic comedy The Proposal which grossed $320 million on an estimated budget of $40 million. And then with The Blind Side five months later which earned another $310 million at the box office on an estimated budget of only $30 million. Way to go Sandra.

Between her earnings on The Proposal and The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock earned $56 million between June 2009 and June 2010, which made her the number 1 Hollywood leading lady last year.

To figure out actresses’ earnings, Forbes spoke with agents, managers, producers and attorneys to determine what the stars earned as upfront pay on movies they are currently shooting, as well as back-end pay earned after a movie hit theaters. They also looked at any money actresses might have earned from perfume and clothing lines and from ad campaigns.

Surprisingly, Reese Witherspoon came in second on Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s best-paid actresses with a whopping $32 million over the past year. You are right, Witherspoon hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2008’s Four Christmases (though she did lend her voice to Monsters Vs. Aliens). But thanks to upfront pay from two movies: How Do You Know and Water for Elephants, she is propelled to number 2.

Cameron Diaz ties Witherspoon at second with $32 million. Jennifer Aniston ranks fourth with $27 million. Sarah Jessica Parker wins fifth place with $25 million thanks to Sex and the City.

Rounding out the top 10 are:
6. Julia Roberts: $20 million
7. Angelina Jolie: $20 million
8. Drew Barrymore: $15 million
9. Meryl Streep: $13 million
10. Kristen Stewart: $12 million

Sandra Bullock Wants Her Image Deleted from Gulf Cleanup PSA

WOW! Poor Sandra Bullock can’t catch a break lately.

America’s sweetheart tried to do the right thing by joining an all-star celebrity cast in a PSA video (click here to see video) urging Americans to sign a petition to have Congress foot the bill to clean up the Gulf after the BP oil spill.

That ad was created by Women of the Storm whose “mission is to educate leaders and gain attention to the scale and breadth of devastation caused in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.” Evidence has since surfaced that the Gulf cleanup PSA video ad may have been propaganda created for BP so BP avoids having to pay for the mess it created.

Bullock, whose image is the most prominent in the video and the promotional pieces put out by Women of the Storm has now asked that her image be pulled from the video until she can ascertain who is behind this campaign. Bullock has issued a statement through her publicist saying that:

“Ms. Bullock was originally contacted through her attorney to be a part of the PSA in order to promote awareness of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At no time was she made aware that any organization, oil company or otherwise had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked for her participation in the PSA be removed until the facts can be determined. Her commitment to the Gulf region has been apparent for many years and she will continue to pursue opportunities that will bring awareness and support to the plight of the Gulf region.”

Sandra, thank you for trying to help. I mean, when the PSA first appeared, a lot of people thought “why should Congress (and ultimately taxpayers really) and not BP foot the bill to clean the Gulf”?  So, it makes sense that BP does in fact a hand behind its creation. I was concerned too at first, but then thought, at the end of the day, someone has to stand up for the environment and the suffering animals, regardless of who is at fault and who should pay. So, I hope this mess gets sorted out soon even if it is me and you who end up paying for it in the end.

Oprah, Lady Gaga, Sandra Bullock, Twilight Cast, Beyonce, Madonna Top Forbes Celebrity 100 List

Pants-less pop stars, late-night warriors and sexy vampires spiced up the fame game last year, withLady GagaConan O’Brien and Twilight superstars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson joining the Forbes Celebrity 100 List for the first time. But the big news is that the last 12 months was the year of the women! The annual list of the most powerful celebrities included 6 women in the top 10! I say, it’s about time. Rankings are based on earnings in the past 12 months, as well as visibility across print, television, radio, and online presence.

Earning $315 million over the past 12 months helped Oprah take over the number one spot from Angelina Jolie, who was 2009’s overall winner. Angelina fell to number 18 this year. Newcomer on the list with a surprising number 4 showing is Lady Gaga. Beyonce is at number 2 with earnings of $87 million thanks to her 90-plus date global tour, and a portfolio which includes album sales, her House of Dereon fashion line and a slew of endorsement deals. Sandra Bullock also makes the list at #9. Rounding out the top 10 for women is a surprise showing for Britney Spears at number 6 and Madonna at number 10.

As far as notable no-shows are concerned, Will Smith and 50 Cent both dropped off of the list because of their lack of presence in 2009; Smith made no new films and 50 Cent’s album sold a meager 500,000 copies. To see who else made or did not make the list, check out Forbes.

Sandra Bullock Divorce Is Finalized – Already!

WOW! Sandra Bullock filed for divorce from Jesse James April 23 and two months later, her divorce is already finalized! That’s some crazy fast justice. I have never heard of any state finalizing a divorce in less than 6 months. But I guess they do things a bit differently in Texas where Sandra filed her papers. This means Sandra can now proceed with adopting her baby as a single parent. Best wishes Ms. Sandra – hopefully this will stop all of the gossip about you and you can move on to happier times.

Jesse James To Publicly Apologize To Sandra Bullock On ABC’s Nightline

Oh man, I really wanted to stay away from this subject because, like the majority of women (and probably men) I know, I heart Sandra Bullock. I love everything about her. Her laugh, her grace, her wit and especially her movies. Even more, I respect her privacy. Sandra is my home slice – she went to high school spitting distance from where I grew up. So, she’s off limits.  But, I have to report on the news in case you’re interested: Jesse James, Sandra’s estranged husband, will give his first television interview to ABC’s Nightline, scheduled to air Tuesday. OK, that’s all on this subject from Celeb Magnet. Good luck to everyone involved as they mend their lives moving forward.
