FAVE CELEB QUOTE: U2’s Bono: “My Voice Annoys Me; I Sound Like A Girl!”

On Thursday, rocker Bono of U2 was on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen asked the rock god if it’s true that he never listens to his own music. Bono responded that he tries to avoid it, because:

“My voice annoys me and I always think I could have sang it better… particularly in those 80’s songs, I think I sound like a girl!”

After a good chuckle, Ellen said, “You sound like a really pretty girl!”

Amazing.

VIDEO: Drew Sits Through A Haunting Rendition Of Billie Jean

For Michael Jackson week on The X Factor, Drew Ryniewicz took on the daunting task of performing Billie Jean —and did so sitting down. During the entire song. And I loved it!

The judges also loved her vocals though they did not take well to her being forced by mentor Simon Cowell to sit down in a chair while singing a haunting rendition of the MJ classic.

L.A. Reid who has been tough on Drew much of the season said he really enjoyed it and that she made the song her own. Nicole Scherzinger loved how Drew sounded and said she showed range but told Simon that he’s playing it safe with Drew. Paula Abdul thought this was Drew’s “best vocal performance” but was surprised that she lacked visuals when “paying homage to Michael.” Cowell struck back at Abdul by saying “Paula, let me remind you that because of too much dancing your acts are out of the competition right now!”

VIDEO: Chris Rene Performs I’ll Be There On Michael Jackson Week

On Wednesday’s X Factor, the remaining 7 contestants had the daunting task of singing a Michael Jackson song, in front of a studio full of the King of Pop’s family including Jackson’s brothers Marlon, Tito and Jermaine and Jackson’s mother Katherine, and his children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.

That’s a lot of Jacksons in the house!

“When I heard it was Michael Jackson week, I was really excited because my family has a connection to him,” Chris Rene told us in his pre-performance video package. “My grandfather was a songwriter. He wrote Rockin’ Robin and then the Jackson 5 picked that song.”
When it came time for Chris to rehearse his chosen song, his mentor L.A. Reid told him he wanted to see a little more Chris and a little less Michael in Chris’ performance. Rene took those words to heart and by performing Jackson’s I’ll Be There in his own style and flair, he showed us why he belongs in the top 7.
Wearing a bedazzled Letterman jacket with an M on the left breast, Rene sang MJ with a bit of a hip hop flair. The judges all liked Chris, with the exception of Simon Cowell. “The vocal was a little shaky at the top,” he said. “When the rap kicked in, it was much, much better. I think you’re going to need a lot of support from your home town tonight.”

Nicole Scherzinger disagreed. “What’s so amazing about Michael Jackson is that you always feel his spirit though his music, and I felt your spirit tonight and it was so beautiful,” she said.

VIDEO: Melanie Amaro Shines On Michael Jackson’s Earth Song

On Wednesday’s X Factor, the remaining 7 contestants had the daunting task of singing a Michael Jackson song, in front of a studio full of the King of Pop’s family including Jackson’s brothers Marlon, Tito and Jermaine and Jackson’s mother Katherine, and his children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.

It didn’t seem to intimidate Melanie Amaro one bit as she earned the highest praise from the judges with her show-closing rendition of Jackson’s Earth Song.

L.A. Reid called it amazing and said he felt he was at an Amaro concert and not at a competition. Nicole Scherzinger said it was one of the best performances of the season. Paula Abdul called it flawless. And Amaro’s mentor, Simon Cowell, said “I couldn’t think of a better way to pay tribute to one of the greatest artists in the world.”

VIDEO: Josh Krajcik Steps Out Of Comfort Zone With Dirty Diana

On Wednesday’s X Factor, the remaining 7 contestants had the daunting task of singing a Michael Jackson song, in front of a studio full of the King of Pop’s family including Jackson’s brothers Marlon, Tito and Jermaine and Jackson’s mother Katherine, and his children, Prince, Paris and Blanket.

No pressure.
Especially not for Josh Krajcik who took the stage first to sing Dirty Diana
LA Reid said he is proud to see Josh outside of his comfort zone and said that he did great. Paula Abdul called it a show stopping performance. But Simon Cowell didn’t seem impressed: “As a spectacle, it was great. However, you were over-produced, you got lost in all the choreography … This is not you on stage … This is what Nicole wants to be, and that’s why you had to be in the cage with all the dancing.” Nicole defended herself by saying she and her mentee like to step out of the box and take risks. She said Josh was brave and bold like Michael Jackson was.
