My heart goes out to victims and families of a senseless crime which took place early this morning when a 24-year-old identified as James Holmes attacked a group of moviegoers waiting to watch the premier of the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises”.
A heavily armed-Holmes walked into a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, early Friday, tossing tear gas into the packed crowd. He then open fired on the frightened crowd killing 12 audience members and wounding another 38.
The black-clad gunman wore a gas mask while screaming moviegoers scrambled to escape his clutches as he randomly shot people while walking up the theater steps.
There were at least four guns used in the massacre: an “AK type” rifle, a shotgun and two handguns. Holmes was arrested later in the parking lot. “He did not resist. He did not put up a fight,” a police spokesperson, Frank Fania said.
Warner Bros. has canceled a red carpet premiere event scheduled for the movie in Paris this evening and released the following statement:”Warner Bros. is deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”
