TMZ reports Portia de Rossi has filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court last Friday to legally change her name to Portia DeGeneres.

Portia and Ellen DeGeneres tied the knot August of 2008 when same-sex marriage was legal in California; and then same-sex marriage was later banned. Now Proposition 8 banning same-sex marriage has been held unconstitutional, but quite honestly I just don’t even know what that means in regards to whether or not two people of the same sex can get married in California yet.

Regardless of the current or future law in California on same-sex marriage, the name change petition will most likely be granted as name changes are pretty routine procedures.
