David Arquette may be sober now, but he started drinking alcohol at a very young age.
Arquette told Oprah Winfrey during an interview which will air Thursday: “I must have been four years old [when I drank alcohol the first time]. I was down in the basement with my dad and the beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it. I remember that. It’s one of my earliest memories.”
Arquette continued: “I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12. I stole pot from my father when I was eight years old.”
That early start lead to a serious case of alcoholism in adulthood, a case so sever that it lead to an intervention by those who love him most. Arquette told Oprah: “I came back from Miami and I had taken a nap and I woke up and [sister] Patricia and [estranged wife] Courteney [Cox] were at my bed. I was like, ‘What are you two doing here together?'”
In addition to Courtney and Patricia, many other concerned friends were there waiting for Arquette in the living room.
“My best friend was there, my business partner and some guy I don’t know, and I go, ‘What up, turkeys? I guess this is my intervention.'”
