CBS television correspondent Lara Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted by a mob while covering the jubilation in Cairo’s Tahrir Square on the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, the U.S. broadcaster said Tuesday.
Per a statement released by CBS, the news reporter, “her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.” The statement continues, “She sustained a sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers.”
Logan has since flown to the U.S. and is currently recovering in the hospital.
