Bruno Mars has quickly become one of the most successful musicians on the scene: He has triple-platinum sales, been nominated seven times for a Grammy, and even written hooks on other famous musicians’ songs including Cee Lo Green’s Fuck You.
The supremely talented 25 year-old lyricist and crooner tells GQ magazine “I keep it real,” and tops that cliche with another trite comment, “The last few months, it’s been a rocket … to Mars!”
It hasn’t exactly been a non-stop rocket trip to Mars – there has been a pit stop at the Las Vegas courthouse for a felony charge of cocaine possession last September.
“I’m not gonna preach that I’m a role model,” he tells GQ. “I’m a fucking musician! But I’ve learned people are watching, so don’t do nothing stupid.”
During his court date in January of this year, he told the judge he had never tried drugs before and that he had acted foolishly. He accepted a plea agreement and paid a $2,000 fine, and agreed to perform 200 hours of community service and complete drug counseling.
