Fugees co-founder Wyclef Jean was running for president of Haiti last year until he was disqualified by Haiti’s board of elections. That did not stop Jean from going back to his homeland to campaign for popular musician Michel Martelly as he runs for the position.
Bad news for Jean was that he was shot in the hand the night before the elections. He was treated at a Haiti hospital and released.
Jean’s brother, Samuel, confirmed the shooting. WENN news reports that Jean was with rapper Busta Rhymes and music exec Jimmy Rosemund when their car was “peppered with bullets.”
Jean’s publicist, Cindy Tanenbaum, told CNN, “He’s doing well.” Ballots are cast Sunday with results made public by April 16.
