Things are possibly about to get even gloomier in Seattle. McDreamy Patrick Dempsey recently told Italian Vanity Fair (via TVLine.com) that he is leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of next season.
“[Season 8 is] gonna be my last,” Dempsey said. “I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done.
[The idea of leaving] is bittersweet because it’s been a great part of my life. But I can’t see me doing it anymore.”
But perhaps and hopefully Dempsey is saying this as a negotiations tactic because his publicist was quick to explain to Us Weekly: “[Dempsey] was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds.”
In addition to Dempsey’s contract ending at the end of next season, so will that of his co-star, Ellen Pompeo who plays title character, Meredith Grey. Pompeo has also said she’s probably not returning when her contract expires. So, we shall wait and see what these two will do in about a year.
