Season thirteen of Dancing With The Stars second performance show aired September 26, 2011. Eleven couples remained to dance the night away to the Quickstep or the Jive for America’s vote. Here is how things shook down:

HOPE SOLO AND MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY
Dance: Jive
Song: “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne

Len Goodman: “Booeykatacha. It was crisp, it was sharp. Unfortunately, you lost your time there. There wasn’t quite the synchronicity. However, having said that, first out, first class!”
Bruno Tonioli: “Hope, Hope, Hope, I know you’re fit and you’re so fast, you could crack a walnut, but all that power is not enough, now you have to be precise and accurate. You lost it several times. There is a difference between a click and a flick.” He said she has to put in the time and apply herself.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Said the dance showed a fun, flirtatious and new side of Hope. Carry Ann said Hope has the moves and the body but has to work on the upper body and more details.

Scores: 6-7-6=19 out of 30.

KRISTIN CAVALLARI AND MARK BALLAS

Dance: Quickstep

Song: “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” by Marilyn MonroeBruno: “I have been bedazzled by the blond bombshell. I love old Hollywood glamour and this performance was twinkling with pleasure. You worked it beautifully. You have to be careful to hold your frame.”

Carrie Ann: “Last week, nervous, this week stunning. Complete transformation. It was elegance, you floated across, you were synchronized. It was gorgeous.”
Len: “You looked fantastic, but I have to tell you it wasn’t as good as you look. You get bedazzled by the whole spectacle of the thing but you look closer and the hold could have been stronger, the feet could have been cleaner. You broke hold. However, overall I thought it was a great improvement over last week and well done.”

Scores: 8-7-7=22 out of 30.

DAVID ARQUETTE AND KYM JOHNSON

Dance: Jive

Song: “Runaway Baby” by Bruno MarsBruno: “We told you not to hold back and you definitely did not hold back. You are a runaway train but the problem is you let the derailment go all the way through. You lost the timing and a lot of technique but you are starting to find your persona you are performing with confidence. So, next week, you get the technique right.”

Carrie Ann: “Carson has some competition. That was a little bit Carsonessque in the sense that incredible enthusiasm came out of you. Don’t get discouraged. You were loose maybe a little too loose. Stop dancing from your shoulders and bring it a little lower.”
Len: “I am almost speechless. Any connection that had with a jive was coincidence. The technique was not there. I liked the enthusiasm, I liked the fact that the jive is full all and you gave it a go, but it was a little wild and frantic.”
Scores: 6-6-6=18 out of 30

ELISABETA CANALIS AND VAL CHMERKOVSKIY
Dance: Jive
Song: “Don’t Get Me Wrong” by The Pretenders

Len: “I’m not gonna say much. Not great, but better than last week.”
Bruno: “The gears were grinding, the engine was hot, the pistols were pumping. You have the ability to get some lines as good as any Lamborghini. Keep working.”
Carrie Ann: Said she “nailed it” and that this is her dance.

Scores:7-7-7=21 out of 30.

ROB KARDASHIAN AND CHERYL BURKE

Dance: Jive:
Song: “Surfin’ Safari” by The Beach Boys

Bruno: “Rob you started to blossom, you started to find your own voice, you’re having a good time, you’re listening to the music, you have a rapport with Cheryl and your timing was excellent. Great improvement.”
Carrie Ann: “It is official Rob Kardashian is a better dancer than Kim Kardashian. Rob, that was fantastic! You have the dancing gene.”
Len: “High energy, fast paced. it was confident, it was full on, well done.”

Scores: 7+7+7= 21 out of 30.

CARSON KRESSLY AND ANNA TREBUNSKAYA

Dance: Quickstep
Song: “Walking Back to Happiness” by Helen Shapiro

Bruno: “Tonight we got Pee Wee Herman goes to the prom and you still can’t believe you got the girl. We can see you work hard, you put the work in, there is a lot of work to do technically but as entertainment it is great.”
Carrie Ann: “I saw improvement yet I am not sure what happened to that improvement in the dance. It was a little wobbly. It had good intent, but I was concerned at times for Anna. There is not a great balance of energy in the partnership. But great enthusiasm.”
Len: “If I held my knife and fork like you held Anna I would starve. The trouble with this show is the worse dancers are the most fun to watch. I want to see you come back. Somebody told me you worked the hardest this week and that should be rewarded.”Scores: 6+6+6=18 out of 30.

RICKI LAKE AND DEREK HOUGH

Dance: Jive
Song: “Hey Ya!” by OutKast

Bruno: “You’re the first person tonight who did the kicks and flicks properly. You did incredibly well.” Carrie Ann: “Best jive of the night so far. Very nice.”

Len: “There were a couple of steps that disturbed me a bit, I did not like it. But, I liked the fun and exuberance. I would have liked a bit more Jive content. It was an improvement.”Scores: 8-7-8=23 out of 30.

CHAZ BONO AND LACEY SCHWIMMER

Dance: Quickstep
Song: “Love Is All Around” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Bruno: “There is a likability about you. It was like watching a little Ewok dancing with Princess Leia. It is cute and lovely. The problem is this quickstep has to be fast which was not quite there.”
Carrie Ann: I am so sorry you are in pain, but that is part of the dancing. Your charm only takes you so far. You did not dance so quickly and unfortunately, this is the Quickstep. So, you’re not going to get a great score tonight.”
Len: Said he admires his grit, but was too slow for a Quickstep.

Scores: 6-5-6=17 out of 30.

CHYNNA PHILLIPS AND TONY DOVOLANI

Dance: Jive
Song: “The Boy Does Nothing” by Alesha Dixon

Carrie Ann: Said she enjoyed watching Chynna dance but that Chynna played it a little safe and thought she was injured.

Len: Said it was good, but it wasn’t great really and it needed more excitement.
Bruno: Said the sexy siren in her is trying to come out and she can’t hold it back.Scores: Triple 7+7=7=for 21 out of 30.

NANCY GRACE AND TRISTAN MACMANUS

Dance: Quickstep

Bruno: “Vivacious, alive and confident it was bit top heavy at times. It is great to see you taking over the dance floor.”

Carrie Ann: “I saw improvement. I like a little more razzmatazz but I loved the team work that has come out of this.”
Len: “How refreshing, you did it. There was no flash and glitter but it was a proper quick step.”Scores: 6-8-7=21 out of 30.

JR MARTINEZ AND KARINA SMIRNOFF
Dance: Jive
Song: “Jump, Jive an’ Wail” by The Brian Setzer Orchestra Bruno: “J.R. you are born to dance, charismatic, athletic. Right on it all the way through. The most satisfying performance of the night!”

Carrie Ann: “It was great, it was fantastic, but you threw in a lift and I have to take a point off. But it was fun.”
Len: “Problem is one is on the label it is not in the tin. I was looking for a jive you gave me a lindy hop. It was not a jive.”Scores: 7-7-8=22 out of 30.
