SPOTTED: J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff of Dancing with the Stars at an interview with Extra at The Grove with Mario Lopez.
J.R. also covers this week’s People mag with the headline, “Triumph After Tragedy.”
The 28 year-old Iraq war hero was involved in a 2003 explosion after his Humvee hit a land mine. He suffered burns covering 40 percent of his body and underwent surgeries and a grueling 34-month treatment. Yet, despite all of his struggles, J.R. tells People, “I’m being blessed in so many ways, and it’s because of the energy I’m putting out in the world.”
The former All My Children star says if it weren’t for the accident, his “life would not be what it is today: full of joy, happiness and positivity.”
“When you show people who you really are and you’re genuine, you don’t have to force positivity. I’m not your typical person walking down the street. I’m cool with being different.”
And those are the reasons why America has fallen in love with J.R.
