Meryl Streep has 16 Oscar nominations (and two wins) and 25 Golden Globe nods (and two wins) under her belt. But the iconic actress isn’t done yet.

Meryl is now a Vogue cover girl, at 62 years old, making her the oldest cover model in the mag’s history.
The actress tells the mag about the time she turned 40: “I remember turning to my husband [sculptor Don Gummer] and saying, ‘Well, what should we do? Because it’s over.'”

Why would an acclaimed actress with so many Oscar nods feel that way? Because as soon as she hit the big 4-0 she got three offers to play witches in movies. “Once women passed childbearing age … they could only be seen as grotesque on some level…as women whose usefulness had passed.”

But things have long changed and she got offered the sexy lead role in It’s Complicated. “In the period of Silkwood (1983), It’s Complicated could never have been made, with a 60-year-old actress deciding between her ex-husband and another man.”

“With a 40-year-old actress it would never have been made!” she says.
