LIVE UPDATE/RECAP:
The women feel more unified than ever after their first win of the season. Dee sees Lou as the weakest link on the men’s side since he always seems to need his team as back-up. He feels it’s time for him to take responsibility for his actions.
The remaining contestants find out that their next task will have them introducing the newest Buick to the market using a 10 minute live presentation and question/answer session from Twitter followers.
They will be judged based on three criteria: brand messaging, content and overall creativity. Debbie is going crazy by the fact that the men have a clear advantage of having Michael Andretti is on their team.
The women first get educated on the task since they feel that they do not know enough about cars. Aubrey as always is the first to chime in and feels that the car has many feminine qualities. She wants to feature the heart of the car.
Once the Buick execs meet with the men, they appear very conservative and Arsenio wonders whether having a comedian lead this particular task is a good idea.
CONCEPT CREATION
Lou proposes that he become Hulk and does not seem interested in what anyone else can or is doing. On the women’s side, Aubrey and Lisa team up because they both see the benefit of working together.
After some brainstorming, Penn reminds his team that the Buick execs had said they did not want a beer type commercial. Aubrey is excited to be in the “cool” van because the teammates who actually work are riding with her.
Tia is not happy that the women are split into two vans. She feels that this separation gives Debbie time to inflict her ideas on everyone who is with her. So Tia calls the other van and has them get on speakerphone so that she, Teresa and Dayana know exactly what is going on in the other van. And of course, they hear that Debbie is doing all the work without the other van.
Adam, Paul and Michael test drive the car. Paul is impressed with Michael of course. Debbie also test drives the car and is a terrible driver. On the men’s team, Adam keeps trying to bring the comedy out in the challenge but it seems inappropriate.
Forte is going with “Love Your Reflection” as their theme and need to write the concept. When Don Jr. checks in on Forte, he becomes concerned with their time constraints. Ivanka meets Unanimous and reminds them that the task is all about marketing. She also says that given the task, Michael should have stepped up as PM.
The women do a really good job on their presentation. Debbie sings, Lisa is audacious, and Aubrey actually uses a fake sob story about her mother dying in a car with no air bags. She does well but calls the car by the wrong name, twice. Later, she is proud of herself for having the crowd in tears over her lies. The Buick execs tell each other that the women’s presentation was “fun.”
The men feel anxious on the day of presentation because they don’t really agree with all of Adam’s decisions and concepts. Adam gets nervous initially as MC and blows a joke. Dee felt that Michael was not a great performer but that his endorsement meant the world. The hecklers then start with Arsenio. And that portion went really well to highlight the car’s features. Penn then gets in the car’s trunk to show how spacious it is. Things got awkward when Paul just kept heckling “you suck” instead of doing anything. The men felt confident with their presentation and one even said he had an erection. Say what?!
Debbie said she feels confident. Lisa said as PM, Debbie was good on the creative side but got frazzled a bit but “who doesn’t” she added. For the men, Dee said Adam was amazing and in his element. Donald said he was surprised Michael did not lead. And Ivanka asked if there would ever be a task more suited to Michael. Adam compared his being PM to the nerds who play fantasy football versus the jocks who play on the field (Michael). He said the nerds know more about the game than the jocks.
Lou said he should have been utilized more and Donald Jr. said this is a recurring theme. Adam said he doesn’t know Lou’s potential. Penn said he was concerned that they went too comical. Dee said he was concerned too and Adam listened to the men and modified the concept somewhat though decided to keep it comical. When asked who he would bring back with him if they lose, Adam said if the men lose, he would bring NO ONE with him to the boardroom. Oh Oh, I feel as if Adam Carrola may be fired tonight, cause that was just a dumb thing to say.
Donald then said, he heard good things about good PMs and this wasn’t an easy task to lose. Teresa said she felt a bit left out because they were in the other van as PM Debbie. Debbie countered by saying she listened to everyone and ran everything by everyone. Aubrey said Debbie was good, not great. Donald asked Tia what she did on the task because she has been flying under the radar. When she tried to explain why she seems like she’s flying under the radar, Donald cut her off and said, “never mind.”
When asked who she’d bring back to the boardroom with her, Debbie said Tia and Teresa. She said Teresa has yet to show her capabilities and hesitates to show all that she is. Teresa disagreed and said Debbie does not know who she is. Ivanka asked if Teresa is extra cautious and she said no. Debbie said Teresa is smart but doesn’t own it. Teresa said she won’t own it if not PM. Tia said she isn’t surprised she’d be taken to the boardroom because by design, the two of them were “marginalized.” Tia said Debbie’s style is “off putting, dismissive and condescending.” Teresa agreed.
RESULTS:
THE WOMEN WIN!!
Debbie pulled Teresa aside back in the apartment, and apologized for seeming snippy. Teresa felt Debbie accepted the apology but said later she thought Debbie was being calculating.
Lou said Michael was the weakest link because he should have been PM. Adam said just because Michael is a race car driver, doesn’t mean he knows about cars. Arsenio said Buick just wanted the Andretti name and Trump agreed.
Clay tried to help and asked if this were a singing task, who should have done it, because they have two singers. Trump said that’s not the point. There is only one race car driver. Arsenio said Lou is like a brother but the team has a hard time placing Lou so he hinted he would have Lou fired. Adam cut in and said he likes all these guys even though he didn’t know them before the show. Dee said Lou is the weakest player and that the men did a really good job but he did end up saying Adam should be fired. Michael said Lou should be fired. He said Lou complains a lot but doesn’t do anything about it. Michael said Lou only complains in the boardroom.
Donald told the men to leave and told Adam to come back with two people. Adam said he would not bring anyone back with him because he was the leader and he should be the one fired. Donald then shocked everyone by saying everyone should leave and when asked to come back, they should all come back and Donald will fire TWO PEOPLE. So, Adam will probably be fired. As will one other person.
Penn reminds the men that a lesson has been taught to them: always pick two people to take back to the board room with even if you don’t want to.
The men come back in the boardroom. Donald said because Adam failed to take two people back to the boardroom, he will fire two people. Adam said he felt responsible for the win and the loss. He had made most of the decisions. He said when a soldier steps out of line, the general gets the blame.
DONALD FIRED ADAM CAROLLA.
Donald then looked at Michael and said Arsenio thought he was the weakest link. Michael said “I am not a sales person.” Arsenio said in Michael’s defense he was on stage. Trump said he even told the men that the project manager on this task was a no-brainer and then Adam volunteered for the job.
Dee said he’d fire Lou. Donald Jr said Lou wants the ball and the men all disagreed. Trump said the task was not lost because of Lou, they lost because of Michael and Adam to some extent. So,
DONALD ALSO FIRED MICHAEL ANDRETTI.
