The blockbuster big screen version of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel may not have topped the box office records for the biggest opening midnight ever but The Hunger Games certainly fared well.
How much did the flick gross? A very cool $19.7 million. But how did the movie rank among Harry Potter or Twilight?
It ranked and “that’s huge,” BoxOffice.com editor Phil Contrino said.
The Hunger Games‘ first installment came in at number 7 of all time top 10 midnight grossers and that’s pretty big considering it is the only nonsequel on the list, making it the biggest night ever for a franchise-starter.
Industry experts expect that the movie will gross over $100 million by the end of its opening weekend.
Here’s the list of the top 10 Box Office all-time midnight debuts:
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, $43.5 million
