Russell Brand tried to make a joke out of the fact that he grabbed and threw a paparazzo’s cell phone through a window but the New Orleans police were not laughing.  And so, just like that, Brand got himself thrown in jail today.

A warrant was issued for Brand’s arrest yesterday for the window he had smashed and Brand did the right thing today: He turned himself in.

He was subsequently booked on one count of simple criminal damage to property and is currently in custody, but given the minor charges, it probably won’t be for long.  Brand has already paid for the broken window and he will likely be fined at least $700 for his outburst.
