And…another one bites the dust on Grey’s Anatomy. And sadly, this time, it’s McSteamy who is doing the walking!
I wish this story was not true, but Eric Dane has confirmed that his character Mark Sloan will be another casualty on the hit ABC show because Eric is leaving, following in the footsteps of Chyler Leigh and Kim Raver.
We last saw Sloan injured from a plane crash which left Lexie (Leigh) dead. But Sloan will survive. In fact, he will appear in several episodes before his storyline is completed in some other fashion.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey’s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” Dane told TVLine. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”
Dane’s departure seems to be an amicable one. “[McSteamy is] one of the most beloved characters on Grey’s Anatomy. [Dane] did not come to this decision lightly,” show creator Shonda Rhimes said. “But after much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end.” Rhimes added, “We’re a big family here at Grey’s with a long history together and Eric will always remain an important part of our family. I wish him the best and I look forward to watching him as he continues to steam up the big and small screen.”
