A fan fave on General Hospital is saying goodbye after playing the popular Jason Morgan since 1991. Yes, sadly, I am speaking about Steve Burton who announced the news that he is leaving GH to his fans on Twitter by writing, ” Morning. Just wanted to thank all of you for your support over the years. You are amazing. It’s been an incredible 21 yrs of my life.THANK YOU.” He added, “Thanks for all the luv.I know it’s difficult for some.It is difficult for me.I luv the cast and crew..it has been home. Hoping to tweet ltr.”
Burton told TV Guide Magazine: “I’ve been through 21 years of ups and downs with GH — regime changes, cast and crew changes, budget cuts, shakeups of one kind or another, and it’s been nothing but a huge positive in my life and for my family. I have no complaints, no negative feelings at all.” He added, “But it’s time to go. I’m going to take some time off and do nothing but relax, just enjoy life a little bit with my wife and kids.”
Burton does leave some hope that one day he would return to the soap opera that made the 42-year old star a household name among afternoon audiences. “I would never say that I am closing the door to GH. But, in addition to my personal reasons for leaving, I do want to see what else is out there for me, as an actor and as a producer.”
Steve, you will be missed by all of us long-time GH fans! Best of luck on your new endeavors which include a new TV project with James Franco and former General Hospital executive producer Jill Farren Phelps.
