Johnny Depp who had helped a former death row inmate get out of jail was spotted yesterday continuing his support for the man.
That man, Damien Echols, was convicted as a teenager in 1994 as part of the “West Memphis Three” for the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas.
Depp and Echols appeared side-by-side at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Union Square for the release of Echols’ aptly named new book, Life After Death.
Echols was recently released from prison after wrongfully serving 18 years.
Depp became a supporter of the Memphis Three after watching the documentary Paradise Lost. Echols has said of Depp, “He’s been with us every single step of the way. Since we’ve gotten out, he’s become like a brother to me.” Echols who now shares four matching tattoos with the Pirates of the Caribbean star also said. “And that’s one of the things we always do just as part of that bond is whenever you get tattoos like that, it’s something you carry with you through the rest of your life and it’s really meaningful.”
