Even before Nicki Minaj was announced as a judge for the upcoming season of ‘American Idol’, rumors started to fly that Mariah Carey is not a big fan of the hip-hop artist and in fact was dead-set against Minaj joining the cast.

Well, if that’s true, Mariah did not get her way and Minaj has already started sitting close to the singer on the judges’ panel. On the first day of live auditions which took place Sunday, rumors started again that Mariah and Nicki’s feud was brewing stronger with Mariah constantly interrupting Nicki when she was giving feedback to the contestants.

But Mariah has spoken out in denial of such a contentious relationship. Or has she? The singer told reporters, “How can we feud in two days? I think a feud takes a little longer.” Well, that does not sound like much of a denial of a dislike for each other if you ask me. It sounds more like it’s just a denial of it being a full-fledged “fued”. Yet. Semantics. We’ll have to watch for ourselves when Idol premieres to see how well these ladies get along.

One thing is clear, Nicki loves her new gig so far. And why wouldn’t she? “It’s wonderful, darling,” she told reporters. Ryan Seacrest put in his two cents worth and joked about the rumors of a catfight on set:

“Randy will not share his mirror, and I’ve never seen that side of him before. It’s causing friction between [him and me].”
