(PARIS-AFP) – If you think men are the only ones turning on porn movies, think again. A recent study which was released Friday revealed that four fifths of French women have watched a porn movie before, further exposing that one out of the two of them did so without their partners being present.
82 percent of the women in the study admitted that they had watched an X-rated film at least once before. That number for men is 99 percent (I think 1 % of men lie.) The French study done by IFOP polling institute was conducted in September and involved 579 women and 1,101 people total, aged 18 and over. The study was commissioned by Marc Dorcel, a provider of pornographic content, to mark the launch of a new porn site targeting the women’s market, Dorcelle.com.
The 82% figure of porn watchers in 2012 is a significant jump from the reported 73 percent in 2006 and 23 percent in 1992.
“In the space of a few years it has become an accepted thing for women to watch pornography, partly thanks to the Internet, and video-on-demand services that made porn more accessible and took away the shame factor,” IFOP’s Francois Kraus told AFP.
62% of the women responding said they had watched porn to spice up their sex life with a partner, but one in two had also done so on their own.
Kraus said “Women are now consuming porn by themselves. That goes hand in hand with a widening of sexual behavior, and changing attitudes towards sex toys or fellatio for instance.”
“And of course it raises the issue of masturbation, one of the great taboos of female sexuality.” He added: “There is a real generational break, with women in their forties and younger much more willing to admit the practice.”
What do women look for in their porn? They prefer a natural-looking cast which was a priority for 40 percent of the women asked. “Realistic” sex scenes” were essential for 35 percent of all surveyed and for 48 percent of women under 35.
Here are some more findings from the woman and porn study: Most women (71%) strongly felt that the porn industry caters only to male fantasies. Only 61% of men feel that way. 72 % of the women felt the films tested were “highly degrading” to women, against 50 percent of men feeling the same way. 57% of women found the movies too violent, compared to 41% of men.
Here’s where things start to differ greater between men and women porn habits: Only five percent of women porn consumers watch the movies frequently (once a month or more) versus 34 percent of men.
The women who were classified as “frequent porn viewers” tended to be younger, making up 17 percent of under-25s against less than five percent of the over-35s. Women with no sex experience were the most eager to watch, making up a third of all regular viewers.
