Beyoncé has represented the Pepsi brand since 2002 in several commercials but her new contract with the soda giant is making headlines because it’s worth a cool $50 million.
The New York Times reports that after Beyoncé performs a Pepsi-sponsored halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII, a Pepsi ad starring the singer will start airing on TV and her face will grace a limited-edition line of Pepsi cans.
But, the buck does not stop there. Pepsi will also promote Beyoncé’s tour and 2013 album release and invest in some of her other creative projects. This partnership marks a trend toward content creation as advertisers try to find new ways into the music industry when record labels’ marketing budgets are declining.
“Pepsi embraces creativity and understands that artists evolve,” Beyonce said in a statement. “As a businesswoman, this allows me to work with a lifestyle brand with no compromise and without sacrificing my creativity.”
I’d say this deal is going to make Beyoncé a very rich lady. But she already was one. She and husband Jay-Z were the highest-paid celebrity couple of the year with Beyoncé bringing in $40 million (before the Pepsi deal) to Jay-Z’s $38 million.
