YouTube just announced its top 10 videos of 2012 and what’s at number 1 won’t surprise you. But who else made the cut? Look below to see if your favorite videos are on the list.
1) PSY – Gangnam Style: It’s no surprise that the video that you could not get away from even if you tried, and made by the Korean pop star Psy, came in at the number 1 spot. The video become the most viewed video of all time in just six months and has over 1 billion hits. That’s billion with a ‘b’.
2) Somebody That I Used to Know – Walk off the Earth: This cover song has had 140 million views–more than any other cover song.
3) KONY 2012: Although the cause fizzled after questions arose about the group’s finances and donors and the Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell had a huge public meltdown, the video still came in at #3 because it was watched 31 million times in a single day. So, of course, this video has the honors of having the most one-day views ever for a YouTube video.
4) Call Me Maybe – Bieber, Gomez, Pena: This lip-syncing video by Justin, Selena and friends made a household name out of Carly Rae Jepsen.
5) Epic Rap Battles – Obama vs. Romney: This video features Obama impersonator Alphacat and has 45 million hits.
6) Dramatic Surprise on a Quiet Square: To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium, a big red push button was placed on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text “Push to add drama” invited people to use the button. The results of what happened when unsuspecting people pushed the button got 25 million views in its first week alone.
7) Why You Asking All Them Questions: The video by comedian Emmanuel Hudson has 39 million views, half of the views coming from mobile devices.
8) Lindsey Stirling: At over 38 million views, 500K likes and 100K comments, Lindsey’s gorgeous violin play set against a stunning scene is a must-watch video.
9) Facebook Parenting: This video is done by an IT genius father who ran across his daughter’s FB post about him which she tried to hide from her parents. Well, when dad found it, he made the whole world know about it. The video garnered 11 million views in one day alone and now sits pretty with 35 million hits.
10) Stratos Highlights: This steaming video which chronicled Felix Baumgartner’s 128K foot free-fall shattered the previous live view video record by attracting 8 million simultaneous viewers.
