John Mayer has confirmed what we have already known for a while now, “I was just a jerk.” The singer, currently recovering from vocal cord surgery, made the confession during an interview for CBS Sunday Morning. Mayer says he is a changed man, “It’s very liberating when you finally realize it’s impossible to make everyone like you.”

Regarding his not so gentlemanly past he said, “I was just a jerk. I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction.”

The seven-time Grammy Award winner’s loose lips regarding his relationships
with some of the hottest women in Hollywood created a massive backlash against the singer.  In 2010 he referred to ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson as “sexual napalm” and dished to Rolling Stone about Jennifer Aniston and spurred Taylor Swift to pen the scathing ballad “Dear John.”

Mayer has been dating singer Katy Perry since last June; so far no kissing and telling.
