Reese Witherspoon has spoken up about her arrest and jailing Friday night. In a short statement, the Oscar-winning actress admits she is embarrassed at her reaction to the Atlanta police officer who stopped Reese and her husband Jim Toth on suspicion that Jim was driving while intoxicated.

Reese says, “Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.

“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job,” Reese continued. “I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

Reese and her husband Jim Toth are scheduled to appear in court today but it is expected that an attorney will make the appearance on their behalf to ask for a postponement.
