Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered last night to strong ratings with 11.9 million viewers overall. This ranks the ABC show as TV’s best drama debut since ABC’s V in 2009.

Variety reports that the Joss Whedon shows had a 4.6 rating in the important 18-49 demo –translated, that means 4.6% of all households within that age group tuned in for the show.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came in third to CBS’s season premiere of NCIS which had 19.5 million viewers and NBC’s blind auditions round of The Voice which had 14.1 million viewers.
