Charlie Hunnam will not play Christian Grey in the film version of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ The unexpected news of the casting change came Saturday when the film’s studio released the following statement: “The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
Also speaking out on the news today was Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James who sent out this Tweet: “I wish Charlie all the best. x.” No mention was made by anyone as to who will replace Charlie in the role.
We are not buying that Charlie’s hectic schedule is the real reason behind Charlie dropping out of the movie. There has been a lot of fan outcry that Charlie does not fit their vision of Christian Grey. In this week’s EW, Charlie is quoted as saying: “There are so many fans of that book and I know that on the surface, I’m probably not what everybody imagined.” Hunnam had also told ET: “I had anticipated [the public outcry], these books were a global phenomenon. I isolate myself [so I] haven’t been too aware of what’s [going on in] social media”.
We will keep you posted on the real reason behind the change and Charlie’s replacesment as this story develops.
