The Late Show host David Letterman who is retiring from his post next year has released a statement about his successor, Stephen Colbert.

“Stephen has always been a real friend to me,” David writes. “I’m very excited for him, and I’m flattered that CBS chose him.”

Letterman added, “I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses.”

Stephen was just announced as the successor to the Late Night show after the 66-year-old Letterman announced that his retirement will take place in 2015.
