SPOTTED: Dita von Teese at the Rock the Empire event recently at W San Francisco to celebrate the opening of W Beijing – Chang’an. The newly-opened W Beijing – Chang’an landed in San Francisco last week for a lively celebration to commemorate its launch. W Beijing: Rock the Empire took place in the Living Room of W San Francisco filled with hundreds of San Francisco’s notables and socialites to watch a dazzling Burlesque performance curated by Dita von Teese.
Dita performed in an oversized, voyeuristic birdcage, symbolic of China’s multi-century love affair with bird keeping, an art form that has been passed down from the royal and noble to the everyday citizen.
The birdcage and the Living Room in W San Francisco were decorated in Beijing glamour with decorations inspired by the design of W Beijing such as tea candles, florals and lanterns, comfortable cushions and pillows with glossy prints of Chinese landscape patterns.
Dita wore Mr. Pearl for her show costume. Guests savored the Beijing Sling cocktail, W’s take on the classic Singapore Sling, while enjoying a taste of Beijing-inspired bites.
