WildAid, a San Francisco-based wildlife organization active throughout the world had its Hollywood debut last week at the Montage Beverly Hills (“An Evening in Africa”), honoring the nonprofit’s 15 years of tireless work to stop the illegal wildlife trade. Fergie and Josh Duhamel, Maggie Q, Kristin Bauer, Chevy & Jayni Chase, Michael Cudlitz, Bo Derek & John Corbett, Lupita Nyong’o’s brother Junior (who’ll be starring in a new Tom Ford movie), Amy Tan, Terry McMillan, Briana Ivigan, Paula Adbul, Diane Warren, Adetokumboh M’Cormack, Hal Sparks and Nickelodeon’s Aidan Gallagher who walked the carpet, attending gala dinner, auction and dance.
The fundraiser also marked a timely celebratory night as U.S. President Barrack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed into law a ban on ivory imports/exports for 2016. Adding to the festivities was an African band and dancers to kick off the night, followed by African singer Alikiba Mwana.
Maggie Q. was honored by WildAid Executive Director, Peter Knights) for her tireless efforts on behalf of the wildlife conservancy for her work in her home country of Vietnam and a ban against shark fin soup (as evidenced in a PSA she shot). A $100 bill that nabbed a $3,000 auction bid started off the night that included exotic trips and safaris, as well as, a “Dinner with The Dead,’ a night on the town and meal with the entire cast of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” anchored by Michael Cudlitz; with dozens more live and silent auction items (including acclaimed wildlife photographer’s framed African lions, rhinos, and elephant art) bringing in 10s of $1,000s dollars for each item. The evening’s guests also viewed multiple Hollywood directed PSAs featuring Maggie Q, Yao Ming, David Beckman and more including sneak peaks of new videos with Edward Norton.
